Web Development for Mere Mortals

Do you have a small business? A product to sell? Do you want to build a website in a quick way but still want it to look elegant and professional? Perhaps you just want to build your own homepage. I am a software developer, I don't know much about html and web design but I know a tool that helped me build good enough websites very quickly and I would like to share my experience with you. This tool, imho, is one of the best things that ever happened to me in my life.

Net Object Fusion is a web design tool that guides you to create and maintain a website using commonly accepted design patterns and user interface paradigms. Today, if you ask any web deisgn guru, he will suggest you a tool like Dreamweaver. The problem is that I am not a web design guru. Since you have read so far, you probably is not a HTML Wizard either. You and I need a tool that will let me create a hierarchy of 20 pages in 5 minutes. I want to type their content, insert images, move things around and I want it to be WYSIWYG. What is more, I want pretty buttons to appear automatically at the top and the left side of my web pages to link them together. I want the buttons to be javascript enabled such that they should change color and they should pop sub menus to display sub categories when the mouse cursor moves over them. Further more, I want to change the style, the look and feel of my entire web site with one click. I also want to move around pages, rename them, delete them and I still want all my links to be maintained automatically. I want new navigation buttons to appear and dissapear in all pages as I modify the structure of my website. On top of it, I don't want to know any HTML or any programming. I am a complete dummy. I got other things to do. Net Objects Fusion makes all of this possible and leaves me time to focus on more important aspects of my business.

So, if Net Objects Fusion is so great why is it not that well known? That is because many professional web designers like to have control over their html pages. They go into extreme detail to deliver the best they can. Net Objects Fusion gets in their way. Net Objects Fusion makes some choices for them and they do not like that. For big projects, team work is essential. The unit of work in a Dreamweaver project is a File. A file can be shared between multiple developers. The unit of work in Net Objects Fusion is the entire site. The individual files do not exist before you published them according to your wishes. Net Objects Fusion does have some team capabilities, but here I would like to focus on the productivity gain for those of us who work on small projects. What is right for the web design gurus is not necessarily right for the avarage Joe. I am a small time programmer, I got other things to do. Mike runs his pizza hop but wants a website. Mary has a gift store. George wants a homepage to share family photos. We all have our main business activities to focus on, we don't have the time and the budget to deliver professional grade web site, that is, unless we have Net Objects Fusion!

Within my busy schedule I must say I would not be able to create and maintain it if Net Objects Fusion did not exist. I do not care how the HTML looks. I just care how my web site looks and operates. I picked a nice and clean theme and provided content for my pages. All the other dirty work is done by Net Objects Fusion.
